Extra Cooking Tips

Crispy Tofu

To get perfect crispy pieces of tofu, first start by pressing the extra-firm tofu to remove excess water. Gently wrap the tofu in a cloth or paper towels and press it with a heavy chopping board for about 20 minutes. Once the tofu is well-pressed, dice it into cubes and toss them in cornflour until evenly coated. Lightly spray the tofu pieces with oil spray to make sure they crisp up nicely in the air fryer. The tofu should have a crispy exterior while keeping the inside soft.

Sauce

You can prep the sauce ingredients in a small bowl or jug. Fresh garlic is optional as the sriracha brings a garlic flavour. When you cook the sauce (use a non-stick pan), first keep the heat low, before turning it to medium heat. The best way to get the sauce sticky is to keep stirring it and you can slowly turn the gas to medium-high heat for a thicker glossy consistency. Add a splash of water if the sauce thickens too much.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Consume within 1-2 days. Full ingredients and recipe is posted on the recipe card below.

Ingredient Swaps

Maple Syrup instead of Honey: For a vegan version, you can substitute honey with maple syrup or coconut sugar.

Tamari or Coconut Aminos: If you are gluten-free, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. Both options provide a rich umami flavour without the gluten.

Different Spices: Experiment with different spices to tailor the flavour to your liking. Smoked paprika, garlic powder, or ginger can add interesting twists to the dish.

Vegetables: Increase the the nutrition in this dish by adding vegetables such as bell peppers, broccoli, or sugar snap peas. Toss them in the airfryer with the tofu for easy cooking if your air fryer if big enough. Or serve the vegetables as a side dish.

Vegan Protein Sources: If you don’t like tofu, try using tempeh or seitan. Both are good plant-based protein sources that work well with this recipe.

Toppings: Fresh chilli or chilli flakes sesame seeds and spring onions are flavourful topping choices.
